Hedgehogs are known for being solitary animals. This is why they should never be caged together.
A hedgehog in the wild runs nearly 15km in the evening. They love to run, this is why you must provide your hedgehog with a safe wheel, and exercise outside of the cage.
Spending time with your hedgehog.
You will notice that when you pick your hedgehog up from us that he or she will be out and about, cuddling, and whatever he or she wishes to do. But remember, their main sense is smell. So once you get home, and get him set up in his new home, make sure to spend at least 15 mins a day with him or her, so that they get used to your smell and the other smells around them. Remember to spend time with your baby every day, otherwise they can get unsettled and cranky, just as you would if you had no interaction.B
Bathing
Hedgehogs need baths, and I can honestly tell you that all our hedgehogs love them. And this is also a perfect time to trim those nails. We recommend using a tearless baby shampoo and a toothbrush, and when holding he or she as you dry them, trimming their little nails.
Food
We feed our hedgehogs All Natural Blue Kitten food mixed with Now All Natural Kitten food. They also get treats such as salmon, tuna, chicken and shrimp. We do not feed worms and such.
The following items are needed to make your baby a happy healthy hedgie:
Igloo
Water dish filled twice a day
Food dish filled twice a day with 2 tablespoons of food
Nail clippers, the kind that we humans use on ourselves
Fleece blanket to dry your hedgehog after his or her bath
Toothbrush for bathing
Wheel
and lots of love!
